PROVIDER PROGRAM

HOW CAN VITASSIUM HELP MY PRACTICE?

Through the Vitassium Provider Program, Vitassium donates FREE sample packets of our Capsules, FastChews, and DrinkMix, along with educational materials, to U.S.-based physicians, healthcare providers and clinics who care for individuals with dysautonomia, POTS and related conditions that can benefit from additional sodium intake for symptom management.

  • An 8-count packet of Vitassium Capsules contains the total equivalent of 2000 mg sodium, or 5g of salt, along with 400 mg of potassium.
  • Vitassium FastChews can be absorbed through the lining of the mouth up to 4x faster than most electrolyte products, with one serving having 125mg of sodium.
  • A packet of Vitassium DrinkMix contains 500mg of sodium and is great for on-the-go hydration.
Packets of Vitassium Capsules, FastChews, and DrinkMix. FastChews flavors include Fruit Punch and Grape. DrinkMix flavors include Pink Lemonade and Fruit Punch.

We recommend that each dysautonomia patient receive one free sample of Vitassium, coupled with our Vitassium Postcard (see below) that describes our electrolytes and how patients can save money when purchasing. We encourage providers to recommend that patients join the Vitassium Club to save 25% on Vitassium electrolytes.

WHY VITASSIUM?

Vitassium does not require a prescription for patients or clients. Unlike most other electrolyte options, Vitassium is classified as a medical food, meaning it is formulated for the specific dietary management of certain diseases or conditions that can benefit from increased salt intake.

Vitassium products are designed to be kind to sensitive stomachs, and they do not contain any of the 9 FDA-identified food allergens, gluten, preservatives, artificial dyes, or GMO ingredients.

  • Daily Management: salt capsules contain 250mg of sodium per capsule
  • Rapid Symptom Relief: FastChews contain 125mg of sodium per two tablets and can work up to 4x faster than capsules or pills
  • On-the-go Hydration: DrinkMix contains 500mg of sodium per serving.

Since our start in 2016, Vitassium has donated a portion of our proceeds each year to help support Dysautonomia International. As of 2023, we are also proud supporters of the Ehlers Danlos Society, the Long COVID Alliance, the Sjogren's Foundation, and other patient advocacy groups.

WHY SALT?

Research has long shown that an increase in sodium and oral fluid intake can increase blood and plasma volume, improve orthostatic tolerance, and decrease baroreceptor sensitivity in people with orthostatic hypotension and POTS.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS): State of the science and clinical care from a 2019 National Institutes of Health Expert Consensus Meeting - Part 1. Auton Neurosci. 2021 Nov;235:102828. doi: 10.1016/j.autneu.2021.102828. Epub 2021 Jun 5. PMID: 34144933; PMCID: PMC8455420.

Highlights: To expand blood volume, patients should have a minimum intake of 2 to 3 L of water per day along with increased sodium intake. Most clinicians recommend oral sodium intake to avoid potential complications of intravenous access. Sodium intake can be increased to 3 to 10 g daily using ordinary table salt (1 tsp. is approximately 2.3 g sodium), salt tablets or electrolyte solutions.

Effect of High Dietary Sodium Intake in Patients With Postural Tachycardia Syndrome. J Am Coll Cardiol. 2021 May 4;77(17):2174-2184. doi: 10.1016/j.jacc.2021.03.005. PMID: 33926653; PMCID: PMC8103825.

Highlights: Patients received 6 days of LS (10 mEq sodium/day) or HS (300 mEq sodium/day) diet. In POTS patients, high dietary sodium intake compared with low dietary sodium intake increases plasma volume, lowers standing plasma norepinephrine, and decreases changes in heart rate.

El-Sayed H, Hainsworth R. Salt supplement increases plasma volume and orthostatic tolerance in patients with unexplained syncope. Heart. 1996;75(2):134-140. doi:10.1136/hrt.75.2.134

Highlights: Participants took capsules containing 10 mmol sodium chloride or placebo (12 per day). In the open study, they took slow sodium (Ciba) (10 mmol, 12 per day). In patients with unexplained syncope who had a relatively low salt intake administration of salt increased plasma volume and orthostatic tolerance, and in the absence of contraindications, salt is suggested as a first line of treatment.
